Spring (baseball) fever
March 29, 2011 - Jody Murphy
OK I admit it. I am mildly excited baseball is here.
As a former fan, lover of baseball history and a long time baseball card collector its nice to know Spring has sprung and summer is just around the corner.
Here are a few baseball-related things I have been reading this week.
The best pitcher you never heard of? Even if the stats are inflated, which they are, there is no doubt John Donaldson was a pretty good pitcher, certainly worthy of Hall of Fame consideration. ... This could be the grossest baseball story I have ever read (but it is fascinating); I give you the Human Garbage Can ... Joe Posnanski, one of the best writers in the country rises to the defense of legendary slugger Stan "The Man" Musial in response to a piss-poor blog effort by former baseball writer Murray Chass. I'm not linking Chass' blog. I would also love to read the column Posnanski refers to.I knew I forgot something ...
Bo Belinsky. Ever heard of him? I hadn't before last week. Turns out he was a less-successful, baseball version of Joe Namath-cool. Also, here's the March 1972 Sports Illustrated story, by Pat Jordan.
