Good eating on Wednesday

October 25, 2010 - Jim Smith
I'll be doing some good eating Wednesday when the News and Sentinel Cookbook tasting event is held to decide which of the recipes is the best of the best for this year's prize-winning cookbook edition.

Of course, I'll also be washing a lot of dishes to "pay" my keep at the annual event.

Category winners will be chosen by the outstanding judges in appetizers, soups, salads, breads, main dishes, side dishes and desserts. I have to admit, while I'm not a big dessert-eater, I will sample some of the entries ... there goes my blood sugar numbers.

Hundreds of recipes were submitted in this year's competition, with judges deciding on the best to be prepared by the finalists for the annual cookoff.

The Cookbook will appear in the Sunday, Nov. 21, edition of The News and Sentinel, with the grand prize winner receiving a $500 gift card from Foodland.

The contest began 56 years ago and has seen generation after generation of top area cooks competing for the grand prize.
