Get out your pots, pans and treasured recipes out, it's that time of year again.

The 56th annual Parkersburg News and Sentinel and Marietta AM Cookbook contest is beginning, in categories of appetizers, soups, salads, breads, main dishes, side dishes and desserts.

Check the ads that will begin appearing in The News and Sentinel for the entry rules.

Recipes may be e-mailed to cookbook@newsandsentinel.com., dropped off at The Parkersburg News and Sentinel office at 519 Juliana St., Parkersburg, or mailed to Cookbook Editor, The Parkersburg News and Sentinel, P.O. Box 1788, Parkersburg, WV 26102.

But remember, all entries must be postmarked (or e-mail messages timestamped) no later than midnight Sept. 20. No late submissions will be accepted.

The greatest part for me, is selected finalists will prepare their recipes for judging at the Tasting Party on Oct. 27, which means I get to sample some of the food ... while I'm helping washing dishes (just don't tell my wife).

The award-winning cookbook will be published Nov. 21, the Sunday before Thanksgiving.
