Facebook: A huge time waster

February 2, 2010 - Jim Smith
The world is coming to an end ... I have a Facebook account.

Yep, I have joined the so-called "social networking" generation since I got an iPhone and almost know how to use it.

While somewhat interesting, Facebook seems to take a huge amount of time and probably wastes more time than many of us actually have. I have found myself checking it in the mornings and evenings and occasionally getting into verbal sparing matches with cohorts in crime at the newspaper as we jokingly jab at each other.

On the other hand, I learned my nephew on the East Coast recently underwent knee surgery, which his father (my brother) didn't saying anything about when we talked via telephone Sunday. I also have seen up-to-date photos of my nephew's new baby son on Facebook, which is pretty cool.

Unfortunately, though, I haven't been able to track down any high school or DeMolay friends, even though I'm told by office Facebook users that it's a good way to find them.

My guess is my generation might be too "old school" to be actively on Facebook.
