| | Government at its bestJanuary 4, 2010 - Jim SmithSometimes — OK, usually— government just leaves me shaking my head in amazement. Recently one of the women in the newsroom had to walk over to the federal building to try and get the name on her Social Security card changed. Of course, she had to go through the security scanners, checking her for guns, knives and/or other items not permitted to be taken into the U.S. Courthouse. Lo and behold the scanner went off like she was John Dillinger ... all because she had a camera in her purse. Oops! She politely was told she couldn't take that banned item into the building but could leave it in her vehicle, which all made perfectly good sense, I guess. Except, there was no provision against taking her cell phone into the courthouse, even though it too contained a camera. So, let's get this straight, a digital camera is a no no, but a cell phone with a digital camera in it is OK! Explain that one to me, please? Ah, government at its best!
