Sarah Palin has resigned from office, ending her first term as governor of Alaska 17 months early.
Lest there be any doubt, I don't like Palin's political manipulations and I don't believe she's a viable candidate for any higher office. I believe she, like some of the talking heads on the 24-hour cable "news" networks, would be a viable commentator for her conservative base and views on a conservative network, such as Fox News.
But, she needs to make the jump soon since her popularity, according to a recent Washington Post-ABC poll, is slipping. Fifty-three percent of those polled saw her negatively while 40 percent had a favorable impression. Last summer, nearly 60 percent viewed her favorably. Among Republicans, 70 percent viewed her favorably and her strongest supporters were self-described as white, evangelical Protestants and conservatives.
So, let Palin become the female version of Pat Buchanan and Mike Huckabee ... and let the national media ignore her.
