Need A Laugh? Check This Out
May 11, 2009 - Amy Phelps
Nowdays, everyone needs a good laugh. And that's what you get with Simon Rich's humor book, "Free-Range Chickens."
Written in a format like a Saturday Night Live skit (not surprising, since Rich has written for the program) the book covers growing up, going to work, daily life, relationships, animals and God. From a horrified children hearing about the tooth fairy for the first time, to frogs talking about the sacrifice of their lives goes to a teen's half-hearted biology paper, to a choose your own adventure for grown-ups, to emails that would justify checking your email obsessively (I can relate) to the real-life silliness of logic problems, to a dad's suspicions that his daughter knows he's reading her diary, to dalmatians wondering why they only ever go to fires, to the real reason why bad things happen to good people, this quick-read book will give you a chuckle and will lighten your spirits.
"Free-Range Chickens" is published by Random House. It is $13 and 129 pages long. Also check out Rich's first book, "Ant Farm."
