Pride by Rachel Vincent
February 3, 2009 - Amy Phelps
Rachel Vincent continues her series starring werecat Faythe in "Pride." When we last left Faythe, she had just found out that she had accidentally turned her boyfriend into a werecat and had to kill him in self-defense. She now faces a tribunal of members of her Pride - and so far it's not looking good for her. The Pride members seem determined to vote the death penalty for her and while her family struggles to save her life, a werebear breaks into the park they have rented to ask that they please keep their members off his lands. The only problem is none of Faythe's people are on his land. The werecats immediately launch an investigation, especially since there is now news of missing hikers. Faythe wants to help, but a faction of the Pride is trying to oust her Alpha father and making everything difficult. When Strays show up on the Pride's doorstep, Faythe is finally allowed to help and finds a wild teenage tabby cat (female werecats are an extreme rarity, let alone a wild one) that she befriends. But what happened to the girl to terrorize her so? And will Faythe be able to save a stranger when her own life may be in jeopardy? Faythe as a character has gained more emotional maturity in this book since the previous two, and it's great to see character growth like that in a series. I look forward to continuing on in Faythe's journey and see more of what the werecats and the Pride have to offer. The sequel, "Prey" is set to come out in July 2009. Look for "Stray" and "Rogue" already on shelves! "Pride" is published by Mira. It is $6.99 and 432 pages long.
