Put the new camera to work
December 27, 2007 - Art Smith
Did you get a new digital camera for Christmas?
If you did, you are not alone. Some predictions put the number of digital cameras sold in the US in 2007 as high as 30 million. That's roughly one in ten people. To put it in a local perspective, that's roughly 16,000 cameras sold to local residents.
That's a lot of photos.
That doesn't even take in to account all the photos shot on cell phones. Even computers these days have cameras built into them.
In 2007 we launched CU, a photo sharing site that allows people to share their photos with the rest of the world via an easy to use uploading system. The site is easy to use and has been extremely popular with readers.
Since we launched the site in March, more than 250 people have uploaded photos to it. The site now contains 1,380 galleries that contain a total of 45,429 photos. The public uploaded nearly 20,000 of those with the rest coming from our staffers. Above are a few photos uploaded by readers.
Photos on the site have been viewed a total of 3.2 million times.
That's a lot of sharing.
So take the shiny new digital camera out of the box, take some interesting photos and upload them to CU. You will immediately become part of the largest collection of photos of the Parkersburg/Marietta area found anywhere on the web.
It's easy to do. Just become a registered user of this site and you can begin uploading photos right away. To register, just click on the Create and Account link on the top of the page. Registered users on NewsandSentinel.com are automatically registered on CU.
Once uploaded you, and the rest of the internet world, can view them and e-mail links to the photo to other people.
The last step? Sit back and enjoy the fact that you've shared your artistic talents with the world.
