I Am Not A Cop by Richard Belzer
October 20, 2008 - Amy Phelps
A Law & Order cast member casts himself as a would-be detective in Richard Belzer's (with Michael Black) "I Am Not a Cop!"
Richard Belzer, television actor and comedian takes his experiences in Hollywood and gives them a crime noir twist in this mystery/thriller.
When Belzer meets friend and medical examiner, Rudy Markovich, for dinner, he finds himself pulled into a case of intrigue, missing persons, assassins, and more when Markovich is assaulted in an alleyway after dinner and turns up missing the next day. Belzer, who defended his friend during the melee, is now seen as an out-of-control celebrity and is being followed around by a young PR representative. But when Belzer meets a beautiful woman who claims to be Markovich's long-lost daughter, he finds himself pulled into a case that is practically ripped from the headlines - of his own show! Even though Belzer is not a cop and only plays one on television, he finds himself investigating his friend's missing persons case, along with the help of his new gal Friday.
A fiercely funny and thrilling novel, this book brings to mind old detective novels in the past with a television spin.
"I Am Not a Cop!" is published by Simon and Schuster. It is $24 and 257 pages long.
