No Steelers game tonight

August 14, 2008 - Jody Murphy
The Pittsburgh Steelers take the field tonight in Toronto to play the Buffalo Bills in an NFL preseason game.
Last week, when the Steelers played the Eagles, the game was advertised as being on FoxSports Pittsburgh. When kickoff came and viewers clicked over to FoxSports Pittsburgh there was no game. No Ben Roethlisberger. No Fast Willie Parker. No James Farrior. No Steelers.
Well fellow Steelers fan, sadly, that scenario will continue to repeat itself.
According to a spokeswoman for FoxSports Pittsburgh, there will be no viewing of any Pittsburgh Steelers preseason games on FoxSports Pittsburgh for the Parkersburg area.
That cheer you are hearing is coming from noted Cleveland Browns fans Bill Marteny and Danny Tennant.
According to FoxSports Pittsburgh, Parkersburg is outside the NFL's designated home territory for the Steelers.
The NFL, which is the rights holder to the Steelers games, said only home territory networks can show the games.
"Obviously, we would love to show it everywhere, but is is, unfortunately, due to NFL restrictions," the spokeswoman said.
When I asked why we could view Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Penguins games, but not Steelers games she said it was becasue the FoxSports Pittsburgh was the rights holders for Pirates and Pens games.
In the Steelers case, the NFL holds the rights and determines the viewing market.
So we will either have to wait for the games to be aired nationally (next week's game with Minnesota wil be carried by CBS) or listen to them on the radio.
The Steelers radio network can be heard locally on WJAW 630 am out of St. Marys.
