Happy July 4th!!!!

My favorite holiday of the year is this Friday ... Independence Day!

There's a lot of people, especially kids, who might disagree, opting for the commercialism of Christmas present giving and getting as being their favorite holiday.

Some people might think Thanksgiving with many family and friends gathering around the dining table to enjoy good food and good company as the best holiday of the year.

Some may think of the religious significance of Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter as being their favorite holidays. Other may think the traditional partying that goes with New Year's eve or the New Year's Day bowl games makes for their favorite holiday.

Others may remember with solemn reverence their fallen brothers and sisters in arms on Memorial Day and/or Veterans Day.

But for me, the best holiday is the Fourth of July. It's a huge national party that everyone can and should enjoy! It's the day when America is celebrated. It's parades, cookouts, Little League ball games and fireworks.

Yep, give me the Fourth of July, just don't give it to me on a Friday because in my business Friday is a tough enough day preparing for weekend newspapers without having a Friday holiday.
