Lucky by Rachel Vail
July 1, 2008 - Amy Phelps
June is the official start of summer, so I'm kicking off the season with a new book a week that you should be sticking in a beach bag to take on vacation, or just relaxing with in the backyard along with a glass of sweet tea.
This week's is a teen romance offering. Be sure to check back every Monday for a new book for adults or teenagers!
A young teen finds her world turned upside down by her parentsá financial woes in Rachel Vail's "Lucky."
Phoebe Avery seems to have it made. She is getting ready to graduate from middle school and move on to the exciting world of high school, has cute Luke interested in her and lives a charmed life with her parents and best friends. She and her popular group are hosting the 'it' party at graduation this year and everyone is invited.
But then Phoebe finds out a business deal of her mom's has gone sour. That means no money for the party or fabulous dress she wants. Phoebe's upset, her father is calling her a spoiled brat, and her friendship with her best friend is being tested. Will this truly be Phoebe's lucky year?
A book that shows how lucky one person can be even through trials and what really matters in life, this is the beginning of a new series by Vail, following each of the Avery sisters in turn.
"Lucky" is published by Harper Teen. It is $16.99 and 233 pages long.
