Time well spent?

June 3, 2008 - Jody Murphy
I did some thinking last night.
I know, I know don't over do it. I did have a headache, but I think it was allergy related and not the taxation of over-thinking.
Anyway, by my calculations (keep in mind I SUCK at math!):
There are 168 hours in a week.
I spend 45.5 hours a week sleeping, averaging about 6.5 hours of sleep a night.
More or less, I work 40 hours a week. If Jim Smith, Jim Spanner or Jess Mancini are reading this I work more than 40 a week.
My wife works 36 hours a week - three 12-hour shifts spanning Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Discounting the overlapped hours of our scheduled she is out of the house leaving me and three kids (all boys ages 5, 2 and 8 months) to our own devices 22 hours a week.
By my calculations I spend 60.5 hours a week with my wife and kids and 68.5 hours with just my kids.
Look. I'm not the best dad in the world. My neighbors - the ones who hear me yelling at the kids in the evening - would agree. But they at least know I'm around.
Heck, I probably wouldn't make the top 100 of fathers in Parkersburg, but I'm there.
For better or worse, I'm around my kids.
I parent.
God, I hope this is time well spent.
