It's your internet

POSTED:Fri, May 23, 2008 @ 9:20AM

I'm one in a million, well actually, 100 million

Like many things on the Web, once a new idea is introduced it tends to take hold and explode across the net fairly quickly.

Around ten years ago the idea of keeping online journals began to take hold. The term “Web log” was soon shorten to blog and people began putting their thoughts online. Advancements in technology made it possible for nearly anyone to post even their most random thoughts.

If you are reading this, you are reading a blog.  In ten short years blogs have grown from none to around 100 million. That’s a lot of people saying a lot of things about a lot of topics. With photo blogs, like our CU, video blogs, music blogs, audio blogs podcasting the word blog has become a term that simply means using media to express an opinion about something.

With such a huge mass of bloggers out there a reader can easily find hundred of blogs on whatever subject interest them.

When we redid NewsandSentinel.com six months ago we added the ability for staffers to write blogs. As with the general Internet, blogs on newspapers Web sites are a growing trend that allows staffers to connect to readers on a personal level. The ability of readers to comment on those blogs allows them to connect back.

We currently have several staffers writing on a variety of topics.

Recently a group of local business leaders traveled to Japan. Because of the global nature of the Internet, Cam Huffman and others were able to keep the valley informed about their trip on a daily basis on our site.  This type of community generated information provide great information for readers in an extremely timely fashion.
