It's your internet

POSTED:Wed, April 16, 2008 @ 2:50PM

Where did my money go?

Like everyone else I have a little money. A little money in my wallet that is.

Like everyone, I don’t  really look at my cash  that close. We get money, we spend money. Sometimes we count our money. Occasionally we look at it.

I looked at a dollar in my wallet one day and noticed a web site written on one edge of it. Wheresgeorge.com, along another edge it read Currency Tracking Project.

When I got back to my desk I logged into the site and entered the serial number. It turned out my little George had been traveling a bit.

One year, 86 days, and 9 minutes before, someone had gotten the same dollar as change at at a Video Mart on a U.S. Navy base in Roto, Spain.

The lonely dollar had traveled nearly 4,000 miles so that I could get change for a $10 bill when I bought a chicken sandwich at  Wendy’s.

Apparently my little dollar made a big leap between entries. The site has a top 10 list that shows some dollars have been entered more often, but have not traveled much further.

The top dollar on the site has been entered 15 times and traveled through out the central United States. See the map for that route.

One day when you are bored, really bored, clean out your wallet and log in and enter your dollars. Months later when you are setting around wondering where all your money went, you can log in and see.

Hey Art, you should really move Jolene Craig's blog to the bottom of the page since she updates it the least often.
