A Pinch of Ooh La La

July 28, 2014 - Amy Phelps
A woman with an unusual family tries to navigate the world of love and business in Renee Swindle's "A Pinch of Ooh La La."

Abbey's life drastically changed when a documentary about her artist husband revealed he was both a forger and cheating on her. Now divorced, Abbey is running her own bakery in Oakland. When she finds out her ex is happy with his new love and new career, her new life seems a bit duller, and her best friend, Bendrix, thinks its time for Abbey to get back out there again. But Abbey's family experience and her own experience has taught her that love can be perilous. Her musician father, while a loving but absent dad, has had multiple failed marriages and relationships. While Abbey loves her extended family and all of her siblings, she's witnessed the fallout too. When she starts dating Samuel Howard, a man who seems intent in pointing out all of their differences, she's unsure about how their future is going to go. Add in complications of her younger sister unexpectantly pregnant and Abbey's world is in for another rough patch.

Abbey is a strong heroine that readers will relate to as she negotiates life's twists and turns.

"A Pince of Ooh La La" is published by New American Library. It is $15 and 308 pages long.
