Grand slam home runs

March 27, 2014 - Jay Bennett
Although the spring sports season is still quite young, that sure hasn't stopped a couple of Mid-Ohio Valley athletes from shining.

During Saturday's doubleheader sweep of Tyler Consolidated, Ravenswood High School's Devon Crews put himself into the national history books.

The senior Red Devil blasted a pair of grand slams in the same inning and according to the National Federation of State High School Associations he is just the 23rd player in prep history to ever accomplish that feat. No one has ever managed to hit three slams in the same frame.

Also of note, Crews' eight runs-batted-in during that single inning tied him for third all-time in the history of prep baseball in the United States.

While Crews' feat is one to remember for a long time, he wasn't the only person to launch two grand slams in the last week.

On Tuesday, Roane County's softball team made the trek to Clay County as the visiting Raiders rolled the Panthers, 15-0, in three innings.

Roane County senior catcher Miranda Hall finished the contest 2 for 3 with eight runs-batted-in. She had a grand slam in both the first and third innings.
