The Life List
July 29, 2013 - Amy Phelps
A woman's life is turned upside down by her inheritance from her mother in Lori Nelson Spielman's "The Life List."
Brett is crushed when her mother dies of cancer, and nervous for the inevitable - inheriting the company her mother had been running. But she finds everything turned upside when she learns her mother left the company to her sister-in-law and Brett something else - she must complete a list of life's goals she wrote when she was a young teenager (and complete them in a year) or forfeit her inheritance. How can she have a baby, get a dog, stay friends (with a friend she's lost contact with), help the poor, get a cool house, buy a horse, perform live on a stage, have a good relationship with her deceased father and be a teacher (a goal she gave up on.) At least she's fulfilled one of them - fallen in love with her handsome boyfriend of four years, Andrew. Or has she? As Brett begins to tackle the list and her life begins to change, she begins to rethink her priorities and the person she was and is now. Is there a new love and a new life on Brett's horizon?
A charming look at what's important in people's lives and making changes, this is a great beach read.
"The Life List" is published by Bantam Books. It is $15 and 331 pages long.
