Great PR for a sheriff's department

February 5, 2013 - Jim Smith
The Union County, Ohio, Sheriff's Department, where my nephew is chief deputy, got a great piece of PR this week on the Associated Press' national wire.

It seems a year ago a Marysville home in Central Ohio was broken into and a 300-year-old family Bible was stolen when the home's safe was taken.

But, this week the German Bible was located and returned to its owner through the efforts of Goodwill, sheriff's deputies and old-fashioned luck.

One of the homeowner's cousins noted a reference to a German Bible on an ancestry website and the sheriff's department contacted Goodwill, which had sold the Bible on its website.

When a couple in Georgia who had purchased the heirloom Bible wouldn't release it until they were reimbursed the $405 they paid for it, the Union County police union kicked in the money and got the Bible back to its rightful owner.

Nice job and great PR for all involved in the Bible's recovery.
