New CU will function better
August 3, 2012 - Art Smith
In the coming week the software that powers CU, the online photo galleries that are part of NewsandSentinel.com, will be replaced with a new, more power program.
Users of the site will notice increase speed when they look through the different galleries of the section because of the more up-to-date software that drives the site.
The conversion is scheduled to take place around August 10. The switch is a fresh start, meaning that photos that existed on the old CU will not be part of the new one.
Since CU first started, the dynamic of how photos are shared have changed greatly. Most people now share personal photos through sites such as Facebook and Instagram, because of this, the new CU will only feature photos produced by the newspaper.
The functionality of the new software should allow us to upload photos in a more timely fashion and allow the reader to view them without having to wait a long time for galleries to load.
Readers will still be able to purchase photos from local events and they will still find the site at cu.newsandsentinel.com. If you have been waiting to purchase photos that are currently on the site though, make sure you do it in the next week. Once the site is switch, the old photos will not be available.
