A group of women set about restoring a historic house for a reality show in Wendy Wax's "Ocean Beach."
Nicole is trying to get back on her feet after losing all of her money and needing a bump in her matchmaker business. Avery is still tryin to prove herself and be taken seriously as a contractor, even after her years on HGTV and is working out her lovelife with fellow contractor, Chase Hardin. Meanwhile, Avery's mother, interior designer Deirdre, is trying in her own way to mend their broken relationship. Madeline is enjoying the chance to have her own career after her husband's tanked, much to his resentment. She's also helping her daughter, Kyra, a single mom after a relationship with a movie star ended with the conception of her son, Dustin. And Kyra's trying to raise her son on her own and is astounded when his father starts taking a deep interest in her son after signing an agreement that he wanted nothing to do with him.
None of the women are prepared for the intrusion of reality TV, but are intrigued by the old house and it's owner, a former comedian. By the end of the summer and the restoration, where will the women's lives be?
This is a good summer read about several women's lives changing along with the house they restore.
"Ocean Beach" is published by Berkley. It is $15 and 433 pages long.
