Friday night baseball
June 21, 2012 - Jay Bennett
Although vacation is right around the corner for myself, there are still a few things I need to get done before I take a couple weeks off for some much needed rest and relaxation.
If anyone is looking for something to do this Friday night they should think about heading over to Bennett Stump Field at Parkersburg's City Park.
Beginning at 6 p.m. the defending champions of the Mid-Ohio Valley Adult Baseball League — The Misfits — will be taking on a new team in the league this season, All-Around Construction. The second game of the twinbill is expected to get under way at 8:30 p.m. and there is no charge for admission.
The league is comprised of six squads and also includes Ravenswood, Smith Orthodontics, Biztec and the 19th Street Country Club. They play games during the summer at Bennett Stump Field, Hank Greenburg Field, Marshall Romine Field in Davisville and at Ravenswood.
According to the league website, the MOVABL "caters to those 18 or older with previous baseball experience interested in continuing their recreational but competitive baseball pursuits from late spring to late summer each year."
They are still accepting players for the sub list and considering the teams are allowed to use the bats which were recently banned from use in the high school ranks, there's a good chance you're going to see a few runs scored and perhaps several moon shots hit out of City Park.
