| | Too many idiots on the roadMay 30, 2012 - Jim SmithAfter a Saturday morning drive along Interstate 77 near Williamstown, I now understand road rage. My wife and I were traveling to Amish Country in northern Ohio Saturday for her to visit the quilt shops and fabric stores and have lunch in one of the supposedly Amish restaurants. As we drove through the construction area on I-77 before the Williamstown exit, a rapidly moving, over-sized, brown, pickup truck come within a few feet of our rear bumper in the reduced speed 55 miles an hour zone. Unable to pull to the right because of other vehicles in that lane and unwilling to exceed the 55 mph speed limit, I had little choice but to hope the tailgating motorist, with a handicapped tag hanging from the front mirror, didn't ram the rear of my car. The first chance I had I turned on my turn signal and pulled over to the right, at about the same instant the tailgater, whose truck bore West Virginia license plates and had a woman driver, also attempted to pull into the right lane. I made the lane change and the tailgating truck jetted back into the passing lane and whizzed by us with the overweight-appearing male passenger yelling obscenities from his window. Such is how road rage incidents happen and lead to traffic accidents ... or worse. Simply put, there are just too many idiots on the road.
