A Dog's Eye View!
May 7, 2012 - Amy Phelps
A humorous book takes a dog's eye view in "Things Your Dog Doesn't Want You To Know: 11 Courageous Canines Tell All" by Hy Conrad and Jeff Johnson.
Conrad, writer and producer for "Monk" and "White Collar" teams with Johnson, who cowrites an advice column after a career in advertising, to tell the stories of 11 dogs through their "blogs." There's Axelrod, the yellow lab who is a bit air-headed, Bandana, the border collie who believes he runs the house and has raised the children, Dimples, the boxer who isn't too happy her puppy-rearing has been taken over by her owners, Tinkerbell, the chihuahua who lives a lavish lifestyle but is annoyed at being thrown into purses all the time, Orson, the bulldog, whose only thoughts concern food, Sophie, the elderly cocker spaniel who is finding her life slowly winding down, Sarge, the German shepherd who can't seem to hold down a job or an owner, Charlie, the miniature schnauzer who lives with six other dogs in a rambunctious house, Moonbeam, a mutt who was found after a flood and is amused and/or irritated by her 'earthy' owner, Gabby, the long-haired dachshund, who is going from puppy-stage to dog, and Rufus T., the bloodhound who is a country dog who dreams of being a star.
From stories of Sarge being let-go as a drug dog for becoming addicted to Charlie who is always formulating escape plans with his fellow dogs, to Gabby who may become a mother sooner rather than later, to Tinkerbell and her annoyance/love of her humans, the stories and humorous and poignant. For dog lovers, this book will have you laughing, crying, and cuddling with your favorite four-legged friend.
"Things Your Dog Doesn't Want You To Know" is published by Sourcebooks. It is $12.99.
