Wondering about hoops
February 10, 2012 - Jay Bennett
Well, it looks like Mother Nature is finally going to give us a little snow punch to the gut.
Hopefully, it's not going to mess up any basketball games this weekend, but I reckon we'll have to wait and see on that.
The 16-0 St. Marys boys continue down the path of undefeated, but the last Division I college hoops team — Murray State — was knocked from the ranks of the unbeaten by Tennessee State on Thursday night.
The Blue Devils not only have tonight's game against rival Williamstown, but the Pleasants County boys of head coach Mark Barnhart also have Madonna lurking on Saturday night in another home affair. That should be a crazy atmosphere considering it will be No. 1 St. Marys versus No. 2 Madonna, although the Blue Dons are the defending Class A state champions.
Of course, going undefeated in the regular season isn't the top goal for the St. Marys boys, that would have to be winning a state championship.
No matter how things play out in the final few regular season contests for the Blue Devils, they are still going to be 0-0 just like everyone else when postseason and sectional play rolls around.
In the meantime, it's going to be fun to watch what transpires.
