Methods of Distraction

VanityAre musicians at the top of the list for vanity? By looking at some celebrity playlists on iTunes, it would seem that way. Some musicians who share their favorite songs are a bit self depricating, never mentioning a song they are proud of, no matter how many hits or albums sold, while others relish in their fame. One particular artist (she will not be named) has never been one of my favorites, but she is most certainly her own favorite. She had listed roughly 20 songs that were all her own. Not one single track from another artists. I like to hear the stories behind songs from the songwriters as much as the next music buff, but I prefer to know what songs and musicians singer/songwriters find inspirational and influential. Is this amount of self love attractive to listeners? Do we want to hear someone talk about nothing but themselves in their songs or would we rather enjoy learning what others find entertaining?
