A celebration of S.E.L.F.

When was the last time that you took time for yourself? I know well that life is busy enough with work, family, and just the normal everyday routines. It’s really easy to live on autopilot — just following the routine you established for yourself and living one day to the next as each one should be the same. As you follow these routines and set goals for yourself, one thing that I have learned is to celebrate your victories no matter what they may be.

We all have goals in life: drink more water, get that promotion or finish school. For me personally, I just got back on the exercise wagon after a long break during vacation. While I’m not ready to run another 5k just yet, I have made it a priority to find time to do “something” every day, whether that be going for a walk in the evenings, hitting the gym in the mornings or doing an ab-workout while I wait for my laundry to be done. Small victories, but I’m getting there.

Being a woman is rewarding, challenging, tough, and beautiful. Every woman deserves to celebrate her triumphs without feeling guilty or thinking that she will come across as conceited.

How do you celebrate yourself?

Is it by giving yourself the downtime that you deserve?

Taking a yoga class in the evenings?

Trying something new that you have always been afraid of doing?

Maybe stepping into a new role at work?

Having that piece of chocolate even though it’s going to put you above your calorie count for the day?

We have a great way to help you figure out how to do just that!

The Chamber of Commerce of the Mid-Ohio Valley is hosting a fun day of networking, education and inspiration for women in the MOV as A Celebration of Self.

Women who are passionate about being the best in their careers, making an impact in their community, going above and beyond for the non-profits they volunteer with, cherishing their friends and families.

Let’s celebrate what makes you a leader in the Mid-Ohio Valley with speakers and activities that focus on Self-Care, Engagement, Leadership, and Fun!

A Celebration of S.E.L.F.

It’s the theme of this year’s MOV Chamber Women in Leadership Conference. The event will be held on Friday, June 28 from 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Grand Pointe Conference Center in Vienna. The Professional Women’s Association (PWA) is again the co-sponsor with the MOV Chamber.

Many thanks to a wonderful committee and our two co-chairs (Lisa Johnson with PDJ Accounting and Kristin Meeks with WV Social Media Consultants) for organizing a fun and relevant day for women in the Mid-Ohio Valley.

Rebekah Mathis-Stump, COO of the Ethos Leadership Group, is back again to bring us our opening keynote titled “Worthy of Celebration.” Becky will provide a brief introduction of why we are worthy of celebration and then will focus on habits that will help us celebrate us. Christa Raitz, Licensed Professional Counselor at Westbrook Health Services, will lead an engaging session entitled “It’s ok to say No.” She will share activities that give you energy and tips on making yourself a priority. Get ready to laugh as City of Charleston Mayor Amy Schuler Goodwin will entertain us during lunchtime. We’ll take time to stretch-out with a fun-filled Chair Yoga activity with Cheryl McHugh from Full-Circle Yoga. Our final closing thoughts will come from Becky Mathis-Stump speaking about “Making Today Meaningful Tomorrow.”

The cost to attend the event is $75/person; discounted rate of $60/person for MOV Chamber members; PWA members pay $45/person; members of the Parkersburg Jaycees or Generation MOV pay $45/person; and members of local non-profit organizations pay $45/person. The on-line registration link can be found on our calendar at movchamber.org A light breakfast and delicious lunch will be provided by Grand Pointe. Registration deadline is Friday, June 19.

Back again this year is the Quarter Auction! The PWA will have a special vendor area for various direct sales professionals (jewelry, make-up, purses, etc.) and each vendor will donate a door prize. The event attendees will have the chance to “bid” on the door prizes with your quarters. All proceeds from the Quarter Auction will benefit the PWA Professional Clothing Closet. (If you would like more information about being a Quarter Auction vendor, please contact Anita Lockhart at 304.482.9111.)
