Two downtown Parkersburg businesses making a mark
Two Downtown Parkersburg businesses are working hard and are being rewarded for their efforts. Aspire Salon and the Parkersburg Brewing Co. both had exciting months, as they were both recognized for what they do best. Aspire Salon was highlighted in Salon Today magazine’s “Salon of the Year” issue and the Parkersburg Brewing Co. took home the gold medal in the 2018 World Beer Cup.
Both businesses are located on Market Street, side by side, and their growth as businesses continue to be seen not only throughout Downtown Parkersburg, but by others too. Aspire Salon and the Brewery are well-known in the community for their top of the line service and cold beer but have also shown their growth and accomplishments in just a short time of being open.
Salon Today, the magazine that recognized Aspire Salon, is a popular magazine among hair salons throughout the country. Aspire entered the magazine’s national design competition that recognizes creative salon spaces and how they serve their clients. Although Aspire did not take the top spot in this competition, they were still published and recognized as a salon with a style that is trending in the industry.
Aspire is in it’s second year of operation and is owned by Pam Creel. In the salon’s first year of business, it won the New Business of the year award from the Chamber of Commerce of the Mid Ohio Valley.
The Parkersburg Brewing Co. opened in September of 2016 and is owned by Dan Curtis. Parkersburg Brewing has won several smaller competitions throughout the state of West Virginia, but this is the first award they have won in a major competition.
The World Beer Cup is held every two years by the Brewers Association. This year, there were more than 8,200 entries from more than 2,500 breweries from 66 countries. The Parkersburg Brewing Co. took home the gold for their Cell Block 304, an American-style brown ale.
This gold medal makes the Parkersburg Brewing Co. the first West Virginia Brewer to win any national or international competition.
This big win allows the Parkersburg Brewing Co. to use the World Beer Cup Gold Medal for promotional purposes of Cell Block 304.
The brewery has plans to begin canning beers with the World Beer Cup logo.
These awards are representations of the successes that come from Downtown Parkersburg. Aspire Salon and the Parkersburg Brewing Co. continue to grow as businesses in the area and are sure to show more success in the future.
