Jan Dils gives back to veterans

It’s a special time of year for many. Halloween has just ended, and many people are getting excited for Thanksgiving and the holiday season. Some area merchants have even started playing Christmas music. However, for the attorneys and staff from Jan Dils, Attorneys at Law, the first half of November is significant for a different reason. We’re preparing for Veterans Day.

On Thursday, Nov. 9, Jan Dils, Attorneys at Law hosted their sixth Annual Veterans Appreciation Dinner. This annual event is now a staple of the Mid-Ohio Valley. It started out as an outdoor cookout. However, due to unpredictable weather, the celebration has moved indoors thanks to our friends from the Parkersburg Knights of Columbus. Each year members of the firm gather to pay tribute to those who give so much and ask so little in return. While Veterans eat free at this event, non-Veterans are charged $5 to participate. The funds go to support the Jan Dils, Attorneys at Law Walk4Vets Foundation. Jan Dils created this foundation in 2011 to support local Veterans charities. Since 2011, the foundation has raised more than $60,000 for Veterans in the Mid-Ohio Valley. Organizations such as the DAV, The American Legion and the Veterans Corps at WVU-P have received funding from the Walk4Vets Foundation.

This year, the funds raised will help support Operation Transportation. This program is about to complete its first year in the Mid-Ohio Valley. Operation Transportation was forged in a partnership between the Walk4Vets Foundation, the Mid-Ohio Valley Transit Authority, and several local businesses and organizations who focus on the advancement of Veterans. Operation Transportation provides Veterans in the Parkersburg area with free unlimited bus passes. Since January, more than 200 bus passes have been issued. Those passes have been used more than 5,000 times.

In addition to the dinner on the 9th, members of the Jan Dils crew were joined by members of local Veterans organizations to raise funds for Operation Transportation at the Vienna Lowe’s. For the second year in a row, the Vienna Lowe’s location has generously allowed us to collect donations at their store.

At the firm, we love working with Veterans. Since 2008 we’ve helped thousands of Veterans get the VA Disability Benefits they deserve. They’ve served their country, now it’s time for us to serve them.
