Time for a gift idea — how about a new book?

Now is the time that many people are looking for some great gift ideas for members of their family. How about a book?

For the mystery/thriller lover: There are several new books to choose from for those that like some twists and turns in their stories. First, there’s “Moral Defense” by Marcia Clark (Thomas and Mercer, $24.95.) Defense attorney Samantha is hired for a teenage girl after her father and brother are found stabbed and her mother barely survived. This is a case that will tear up the headlines, but is Samantha prepared for all of that, especially when she begins to relate to her client?

For teenage mystery fans, there’s “The Girl in the Picture” by Alexandra Monir (Delacorte Press, $17.99.) Chace is the school heartthrob, and no one can believe it when he’s found dead in the woods by the school. His popular girlfriend, Lana, is distraught. But what no one knows is Chace was hanging out an awful lot with her best friend, the much less popular Nicole. What were they doing together? Is Nicole the prime suspect? There’s plenty of shock and betrayal in this story.

For TV/game-tie in lovers: There’s two new books that tie in to new television shows and video games out now.

First, there’s “Good Behavior” by Blake Crouch (Thomas and Mercer, $15.95.) In three interlinked novellas, Letty Dobesh is fresh out of prison and already burglarizing when she overhears a murder plot. Since she can’t go to the police, she decides to take matters into her own hands and stop the killer her way. Now a television series on TNT, this is a good tie-in for those wanting to know more about the character.

The upcoming movie and popular game series also gets the book treatment in “Assassin’s Creed: Heresy” by Christie Golden (Ubisoft, $16.) Simon Hathaway, heading up Abstergo Industry’s Historical Research Division has a new mission — to locate Joan of Arc’s sword, which purportedly has powers over people. In order to get to it, he unlocks the genetic memories of his ancestor, Gabriel, who fought with Joan and was in love with her. But unlocking these memories may bring some deadly secrets of their own. With its blend of science-fiction, action and historical element, this will intrigue many.

For the romance fan: Several contemporary romances are ready to burn up the pages! First there’s “Caught Up in You” by Jules Bennett (Zebra, $7.99.) He needs a massage therapist to work there and soon his paths cross with Cora Buchanan, whose talent at her job is great — and who happens to be blind. She brings out the protective nature of Braxton, but Cora doesn’t want protecting, especially from her boss. Will the two find romance?

Special agents and hot cars come together in “Chase” by Sidney Bristol (Zebra, $4.99.) Gabriel has left the FBI behind for some undercover work. But when his hot ex-partner shows up, trouble can’t help but follow in the form of some terrorists. Will the two team up again, and get personal?

For the Amish romance fan: Amy Clipston returns to her Amish Heirloom series in “The Cherished Quilt” (Zondervan, $15.99.) Christopher has come to work for his uncle and isn’t looking for friendship, let alone romance, and then he meets Emily.
