The Germania Singing Society, composed of a number of first-class singers, have rented, fitted up for their use and adorned in a highly ornate style, the front room in the third story of T.I. Boreman’s building on the south side of Court Square. We are always glad to see societies for improvement, pleasure and recreation, built up and encouraged, and hope the Germania may succeed beyond their most sanguine expectations.

Music tonight

The much talked-of Kanya Geza Hungarian Gypsy Quartette will appear to-night at the Academy of Music. Where ever they have sung and played in this country or in Europe they have been received with unstinted praise.

Sale of seats for the concert

Seats for the third concert to be given by the Parkersburg Choral Society were placed on sale this morning at Miss Leese’s store, and they went like the traditional hot hoe-cake. Many persons selected seats in the rear portion of the hall or in the gallery, because the volume of the chorus of forty-five voices will produce a much better effect at those distances from the stage than closer. A splendid piano will be brought here from Cincinnati especially for the concert.

We are proud of it

There is a musical organization in this city of which Parkersburgers are very proud, but which does not receive the pecuniary support or the financial assistance it should.

The members comprising the Citizens Concert Band, for it is of that organization we speak, are all musicians and are hard workers.  By their ability and indefatigable labor they have made their band the leading organization of the kind in this State.

A State Journal reporter paid a visit last night to the hall where the band practices.  The newspaper man was honored by having several fine selections played for him, among which was The State Journal March, composed by Mr. John Jenkins of this city.
