Wellness center readies new location

Dr. Callie Rader is looking forward to operating her Parkersburg business out of a building she owns.

Rader, a chiropractor, will be relocating Dawn Injury & Wellness Center to her property at 927-937 Emerson Ave. in Parkersburg around April 1.

The wellness center has operated at 4 Rosemar Circle for three years and at Murdoch Avenue and 20th Street for seven years before that in leased buildings.

The new location is across Emerson Avenue from the hotel being built on the former Henry Logan Children’s Home property above Murdoch Avenue (West Virginia 14).

Rader’s husband, Heath, a teacher-contractor-artist, is constructing the 3,000-square-foot stone and cedar building. Heath Rader is a 1990 graduate of Parkersburg South High School and a graduate of Marietta College, where he was an all-conference football player.

Heath is an art teacher at Marietta High School.

Callie Rader said she had four old houses demolished to make room for her wellness center. She plans to offer acupuncture, massage therapy, nutrition, weight loss and Pilates instruction and services, along with chiropractic treatment, at the facility. Plans call for 20 parking spaces.

Dr. Rader said her goal is to improve the health and well-being of area residents.

The Raders live in Walker.

The Junior League of Parkersburg, which has worked toward the betterment of the community since 1925, is looking for new members. The membership number has fallen to eight women, with the organization expecting to nearly double that number in the upcoming months, said Junior League President Savannah Jeffers. The League is comprised of females over 18 years old who are interested in learning leadership skills, networking, meeting new friends and helping the community. The Junior League has worked on many community projects over the years, including SW Resources, the Parkersburg-Wood County Public Library, arts in the schools, the juvenile detention home, Family Crisis Intervention Center and the Harvest Moon Festival, along with maintaining the historic Cook House at 1301 Murdoch Ave. The Junior League is raising money and coordinating efforts to build a new playground at City Park that is accessible to all children. The outlook is positive for the Junior League in 2014, Jeffers said. Females interested in becoming a Junior League member can contact Jeffers, branch manager at Peoples Bank on Emerson Avenue, at 304-210-5133.
