Thank you for the support
Can you imagine what it would be like to suddenly be disconnected from your home and friends, have no place to stay, and not know how to navigate the complex social services networks available locally in order to get back on your feet? At Latrobe Street Mission we do, and we have provided a safe place to stay and warm meals to people in need almost 20,000 times this year.
At Latrobe Street Mission we provide resources, opportunity and shelter for the homeless through developing community partnerships. We initially provide emergency sheltering and then connect our guests with available resources and help them toward independent living and self-sufficiency.
These services are provided by a few staff members and a small army of volunteers who provide daytime and night-time shelter support, cook and provide evening meals, support the Thrift Store and recycling programs and provide maintenance and facility improvements. If you are one of the 650+ individuals, companies or groups that donated money, donated time, provided a meal, helped with a construction project or helped in our shelter this year — THANK YOU. Because of people like you, more than 50 people a day (including women and family groups including children) do not have to live on the street while they try to figure out their next steps.
Recently we have completed the improvements to our kitchen, dining and bath areas, painted our dormitories, provided much needed heating and air conditioning for our gathering areas, and are in the process of buying new beds for our guests. At Latrobe Street Mission we are working hard to earn your trust while we provide shelter services for our most vulnerable community members.
Numbers like 20,000 bed-nights and 15,000 meals are hard to put in context within our community. If you go to our Facebook page, we are sharing the individual stories where you can connect your donation or effort with a name and a success story that you have helped support.
We thank you for your support this year, hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year, and look forward to working with you in 2019. Together we will strive to live by Christ’s mantra: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in…”
