Therapeutic services needed
I left Marietta at 18 and have only returned for brief visits to see my family. I reside in Central Virginia near Charlottesville and work as a counselor with troubled teenagers at an “alternative” school.
Through the programs that Virginia offers, I have been fortunate to help many teens turn their lives around. Unfortunately, in trying to help someone else get the help they need I have seen many doors slammed in their face by DSS, the school system and the court system.
I know for a fact, many programs are federally funded and that money is there for all states. Unfortunately, Ohio must consider itself a reactive state and not proactive. Those who call themselves professionals and going above and beyond should be ashamed of themselves!
Please make some changes, think outside the box and give families the opportunities to get more therapeutic services in place!
