Vote blue in November

This is a letter to all of my fellow Democrats in the Mid-Ohio Valley. The time to get out and vote and make a difference is this coming November.

All 435 House seats are open in this election cycle. The current numbers in the House are 236 Republican, 199 Democrat. We need to capture 19 seats to reach the magic number of 218 for a majority.

There are 33 Senate seats up for grabs. Currently there are 53 Democrats and 45 Republicans (with two independents who caucus with the Democrats) giving our party a 55-45 majority. However, the minority Republicans have abused the filibuster, requiring a 60 vote super majority to get legislation passed. We need to gain at least five seats to make our majority secure. That’s 24 net seats out of a total of 468 up for grabs in Congress as whole.

We’ve got to take control of Congress back for President Obama’s two remaining years in office if we hope to accomplish anything as a country. And by anything, I mean a higher federal minimum wage, immigration reform, reasonable gun control laws, and environmental regulations that will actually help make a dent in the 17 percent carbon emissions contribution that the U.S. makes to climate change, setting an example for other nations to follow.

We can do this, Democrats! This may be the most important election of our lives. Vote blue in November 2014!
