Guns and serial numbers
In the April 22 news report about the stolen guns recovered at a traffic stop, Sheriff’s Department Capt. Mark King stated that serial numbers had been ground off and the guns could not be returned to the owners. That statement is incorrect. There is a solution that can bring these numbers out, as these numbers go all the way through the gun when they are put on. If the gun owner can identify that it’s his gun, that he is the rightful owner, the gun needs to be returned to him.
I had this happen to me. The ATF in Denver called the Casper, Wyo., police department to give me the gun. They, in fact, gave me back the gun, but were unhappy about it. The value of the gun, a Belgium Browning 9 mm: $1,500.
