United Way not behind ads
It is the time of year again when the National Ad Council (NAC) places advertisements tied to United Way on local radio stations and billboards. Please know that: 1) these ads are not paid for by local United Way Alliance dollars, and: 2) we have no control over how and when they appear in our local media.
The NAC ads to which I’m referring focus on high school graduation rates. Although United Way Alliance does NOT have a “specific” mission of improving high school graduation rates, we do fund multiple programs that directly impact school performance and graduation. These programs include, but are not limited to, early childhood development initiatives, summer reading programs, after-school programs, and comprehensive youth development programs. Our “Back-to-School” backpack program and Every Smile Matters dental pouch program have also proven to make a significant difference in school readiness. Funding for United Way Alliance’s EDUCATION focus area has been and will continue to be a priority.
Since some concern has been expressed over the cost of placing these ads, I felt compelled to let the public know that your dollars donated to United Way Alliance stay locally and are not affiliated with the NAC ad campaign.
