Rower wasn’t called fat

Angela Sims letter to the editor dated Oct. 14: “Too fat to be part of the local rowing club” is a total fabrication, bordering on slander. Her story, as she says, is “totally unbelievable” and absolute nonsense. The OVRC is trying to rebuild a failing PHS crew program. Why would we chase anyone away? In hopes these girls would stick with the program and see positive results, I told them exercise alone would not work for them. If they wanted to take advantage of the program to get in shape and lose some weight, they would also have to pay attention to diet. They were told to avoid sugary drinks, fast food and follow a healthy diet.

I recommended this in hopes they would continue to row at a competitive level for PHS in the spring. What was said, obviously, was not what was heard.
