Joe Manchin’s bright future

I thought the Manchin/ Toomey gun bill would be problematical politically for both senators; however, to the contrary for Sen. Manchin, for it has been a treasure trove for him. He has been catapulted into national prominence as indicated by his several guest appearances on national and cable news programs. C-Span favors him as he moves about in the well of the Senate. He presents himself ably.

As he is promising, he may very well revisit the gun bill, due to his popularity and to the pressure being placed by constituents who did not take kindly to the dissenting votes of their respective senators, two of whom are Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire and Rob Portman of Ohio.

Senators are between a “rock and a hard place” when it comes to voting on gun bills, but that should not have been a problem with the first bill; it was wanted by a majority of our populace.

Sen. Manchin received some flak, but those who were “all-fired hot” at first seemed to have cooled their passion. A wise decision, because any aspiring 2016 Democrat for president may want to consider Sen. Manchin as his/her vice president.
