Forgetting JFK’s challenge

Now that the so-called fiscal cliff has been avoided our government will tackle spending cuts. They always start with entitlements. Why do they never mention the free entitlements they get? They get free health care and a pension if they only serve one term, plus numerous other perks. They give themselves a pay raise anytime they want.

This is all paid for with our tax dollars. They put themselves above the people they represent. Why should they get for free what the rest of America has to pay for? They also get millions from lobbyists. When they cut spending, which rarely happens, they should cut foreign aid. Billions are sent to nations that hate us. That money could be used to cut the deficit, also to repair our infrastructure which is in bad shape.

JFK said “ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” A government that bought and paid for by special interests doesn’t work that way.
