Easter: Celebrate rebirth and new hope

Today, most of the Christian world celebrates the most important event to the faith — the discovery of an empty tomb and a risen Lord. It is a day on which many in the Mid-Ohio Valley will be attending church services in celebration of the most joyous and hope-filled occasion, singing “We are an Easter people!”

Just as during the Christmas season, there are secular aspects to the celebration. Children will look forward to goodie-filled Easter baskets; perhaps colorful eggs hidden by a mischievous bunny. Families will gather for incredible feasts and spend a little time together in this world where isolation gets easier every day. The arrival of spring will seem more real.

Enjoy the day, folks. Embrace the light and hope it brings.

Happy Easter!

“God proved His love on the Cross. When Christ hung, and bled, and died, it was God saying to the world, ‘I love you.'”

— The Rev. Billy Graham

“A man who was completely innocent, offered himself as a sacrifice for the good of others, including his enemies, and became the ransom of the world. It was a perfect act.”

— Mahatma Gandhi

“The great gift of Easter is hope — Christian hope which makes us have that confidence in God, in his ultimate triumph, and in his goodness and love, which nothing can shake.”

— Clergyman Basil Hume
