Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down

UP: To Operation S.T.A.T. (Standing Tall for American Troops), which, with the help of the Ladyburgs and some local Verizon employees, fill boxes to be donated to long-term patients at veterans’ facilities in Cleveland and Sandusky, Ohio, and Erie, Pa. As with many such organizations, founder Adam Cook pointed out the need does not go away once Christmas has passed. “We just do things all year long with the veterans to make sure they know that their sacrifices and their service to our county hasn’t gone unnoticed,” he said.

UP: To a successful first week for Contour Airlines, out of the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport, during which they recorded 44 enplanements. Airport Manager Glen Kelly said Contour has 270 passengers booked for the month. “If these guys do what they say, what’s in their contract, (it) could be big,” said Wood County Airport Authority member Terry Moore. Indeed. Let us hope this is just the beginning of a fantastic fresh start at the airport.

UP: To the addition of a solar panel array to the Belpre Fire Station, which will join those on the Belpre Municipal Building in helping the city be more eco-friendly, and perhaps even save a little money on electrical costs.

UP: To those graduating from West Virginia University at Parkersburg today — 367 certificate, associate and bachelor’s degrees will be awarded to 320 students. “It’s a sincere joy and privilege to share my first WVU Parkersburg commencement with so many talented students and their families,” said WVU-P President Chris Gilmer. “I am extremely proud of you all.”
