Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down

UP: To the number of events drawing folks to downtown Parkersburg today. Our city’s annual Christmas parade, Winterfest, the Paranorm MOV expo, the Easter Seals Festival of Trees at the Blennerhassett Hotel … this place is bursting with opportunities to get into the community and holiday spirit. It is a good reminder of how fortunate we are to have so many folks willing to organize all these fun and festive events for the rest of us.

UP: To the donation of 26 mobile radio units, 11 handheld units, antennas and extra batteries to the Wood County 911 center by the Mid-Ohio Valley Transit Authority, for emergency use in the community. Volunteer fire departments and other agencies will now benefit from the replacement of radios on the Easy Rider buses. “We will add this to our cadre of radios and equipment that we will be able to pass out to those who need it during official events,” said Wood County 911 Director Rick Woodyard.

UP: To the first responders who dealt with multiple accidents and treacherous conditions when ice coated many local roads this week. Calmly handling those who have just been in accidents as a result of the weather, while also waiting for salt trucks to make it possible for wreckers and emergency vehicles to get to the scene, all while staying with those folks in freezing temperatures could not have been an easy task.
