Thanksgiving: Celebrate and count your blessings

What a wonderful holiday is Thanksgiving. It gives us an opportunity to celebrate with our families and friends all for which we are grateful — simple as that.

Certainly there is a lot of food, football, a parade, and the military-level planning of Black Friday shopping strategies, but at the heart of it all, it is a break from our routines to count our blessings.

It is also, of course, a chance to remember there are some who find it more difficult to concentrate on the things for which they can be grateful. Opportunities are everywhere to let them know they have not been forgotten on this day. And we can be grateful for the men and women who are spending much of today helping to offer meals and little social time to folks who are not gathering around a family table and asking for thirds on the pumpkin pie.

There are also plenty of folks who will have to eat their turkey and cranberry sauce on some other day, as the business of keeping us all safe and sound is their priority this holiday.

Mid-Ohio Valley residents know we are blessed, every day. Today is just a special chance to celebrate it.

Happy Thanksgiving, folks!

“Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.”

— Author William Arthur Ward

“Pride slays thanksgiving, but a humble mind is the soil out of which thanks naturally grow. A proud man is seldom a grateful man, for he never thinks he gets as much as he deserves.”

— Clergyman Henry Ward Beecher
