DeWine: Ohio AG right for governor’s seat

Ohio AG right for governor’s seat

Two years ago, Ohio voters made clear they were finished with politics as it had always been. Voters in 2016 were ready to send in some outsiders.

But one man, a long-time insider, has earned Ohio residents’ trust. Now, state Attorney General Mike DeWine is running for governor in the Nov. 6 election.

With one issue in particular, DeWine has showed Buckeye State residents he shares their anger at government’s repeated failure.

While serving in the U.S. Senate, DeWine learned to his horror that police departments throughout the state had thousands of “rape kits” gathering dust in their storage rooms. The kits, containing physical evidence, had never been tested. DeWine sent federal resources in an attempt to help.

When he became attorney general, DeWine launched a crash program to get the kits tested as soon as possible. Today, DNA from the tests had been used to identify about 4,600 assailants. Hundreds of them, some serial rapists, have been brought to justice.

That campaign alone makes it clear DeWine is no politician seeking power for his own sake. Rather, he uses it for the good of Ohioans.

He also has made a name for himself as a leader in battling the substance abuse crisis. In addition to fighting illicit drugs through the attorney general’s traditional law enforcement role, DeWine has emphasized treatment for addicts, too.

His platform includes tax relief, cutting the regulatory burden on job creators, public school reform, improving health care while safeguarding insurance coverage for Ohioans with low incomes and/or pre-existing conditions and ensuring schools are safe — to name a few.

The Parkersburg News and Sentinel endorses DeWine for governor. He has proven he will be a governor who responds to what Buckeye State residents need, rather than what King Bureaucracy dictates; and voters should remember that at the polls next week.
