Disgusting: Tenney’s comments are beyond the pale
Seventeen people, most of them children, died in a school massacre Feb. 14 — and U.S. Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-N.Y., used the tragedy as an opportunity to take a disgusting political jab.
During a radio interview, Tenney said: “… it’s interesting that so many of these people that commit mass murders end up being Democrats, but the media doesn’t talk about that, either.”
No, we don’t. Absent some scientific evidence the subject is relevant — and we have seen none — we aren’t going to.
Meanwhile, National Rifle Association spokeswoman Dana Loesch ventured even further into irrationality when she proclaimed before the Conservative Political Action Conference: “Many in legacy media love mass shootings. You guys love it. Now, I’m not saying that you love the tragedy. But I am saying that you love the ratings. Crying white mothers are ratings gold to you and many in the legacy media.”
It should go without saying that the vast majority of those working in all kinds of news media would be thrilled to never again have to report on any crying mothers grieving the loss of their children in mass shootings. Loesch’s attempt to vilify those who inform the public when such events take place — and we have had to do so far too often over the past 20 years — is telling. But, then again, she knows where her bread is buttered.
Tenney should be ashamed of herself. The apology she owes may be beyond her ability to make.
One wonders whether she has checked the political affiliations of victims of mass killings.
Wait. That won’t be possible. Too many of them were children not old enough to vote.
