Be Thankful: Celebrate good fortune and share blessings

Today we are thankful, as we should be every day, for the bounty we have been given in this great country, and beautiful valley. We gather with friends and family for wonderful meals in welcoming homes — maybe a football game on the TV — and we remember just how much we have for which to be grateful. Even our challenges serve only to point out how fortunate most of us truly are.

In fact there is good reason that today many of us choose to serve as volunteers for dinners at which those whose blessings are less obvious can be surrounded by love at a Thanksgiving meal, too.

Mid-Ohio Valley residents are thankful today for the hope that is on the horizon in the form of new economic opportunities and investments. Perhaps the next few years will bring gratitude points that have been unfamiliar to some residents for too long.

Today there is hope, there is laughter and love, there are feasts and there is family — whatever shape that may take.

Celebrate this opportunity to give thanks, ladies and gentlemen; and may you all have a happy Thanksgiving!

“The thankful receiver bears a plentiful harvest.”

— William Blake, poet

“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.”

— Oprah Winfrey
