Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down
UP: To the unofficial start of summer — Memorial Day weekend. Have a fun, safe and happy holiday, everyone!

UP: To local young people like the Jackson Middle School students (and staff) who collected personal care items for the Good Samaritan Center in Vienna. Volunteer Barbara LeMasters said “They outdid themselves. It was wonderful.” With the entire school participating, more than 400 items, filling two tables, were collected.

UP: To the continued dedication and hard work of the Parkersburg Violent Crime and Narcotics Task Force, which is on the front lines of a war the Mid-Ohio Valley MUST win. Last week 70 grams of heroin were stopped from reaching the supply chain, and two men suspected of “intent to deliver” were arrested.

UP: To the return of daytime emergency squad service in Belpre. With the approval of a one-year contract for Pro Care, and the continued use of the Belpre Volunteer Fire Department for nighttime calls, residents now have an essential service just a little closer to home. “It’s good to have that back in place,” said Mayor Mike Lorentz. “We have an older city and we have an active city. Now it’s summer time, the pools are open, kids are out riding bikes, skateboarding and so forth. We’ve got to have that service.”
