Manchester: ISIS attack a new level of cowardice

ISIS attack a new level of cowardice

Lest there be any doubt there is no limit to the evil in the hearts of those who seek to strike terror in the West, among the 22 dead after an explosion outside a concert in Manchester, England, was an 8-year-old girl who was part of the crowd. It was the kind of concert where parents line up outside the ticket office to pick up their children after a fun night of music and dancing. The gathering has been described as “thousands of children and young people.”

ISIS has claimed responsibility for the bombing, which is being called a terrorist attack by authorities. It is the 12th deadly terror attack in Western Europe since the beginning of 2015, with more than 300 people killed. ISIS has claimed responsibility for or has been linked to nearly every incident.

But even for ISIS, this attack reaches a new level of cowardice. “It would appear that this was targeting kids,” said one NPR reporter.

President Donald Trump, perhaps struggling to find the right (publicly appropriate) language to address the tragedy, said “So many young, beautiful innocent people living and enjoying their lives murdered by evil losers in life. I won’t call them monsters because they would like that term. They would think that’s a great name.”

In the aftermath of the bombing, some were concerned that lax security measures might have contributed to the tragedy. And while appropriate security measures are necessary, it is important to remember the freedoms we hold dear can sometimes make us vulnerable; but it is our freedom they hate so much, and we must not bow to their desire to erase those freedoms.

“We are grieving today, but we are strong,” Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham said.

We must stay strong, redoubling our efforts to erase this evil from the face of the Earth.
